FROM penning the perfect responses to your packed inbox to offering restaurant recommendations on the go (optimised as always for your location), it seems there is little that AI can’t help us with.

But fresh from the shock of the news of the latest Kardashian drama — I jest — I noted the reports of AI-powered news reports with resignation.

In case you missed it, recent developments in the use of AI across news organisations included the news in February that ‘robot reporters’ have helped to drive an additional 1,000 paying subscriber to a local Swedish outlet through a constant feed of property-focused short articles, which were proving particularly popular with local readers.

While in China, audiences were introduced to their newest hosts last November for state news agency, Xinhua; AI anchors who are designed to work ‘tirelessly’ all day to bring viewers updates.

Developed by the news agency and local search engine, Sogou, the new team-members are designed to simulate the facial expressions, intonation and appearance of real-life anchors, reports reveal.

Best of all, of course, they are equipped with the ability to read perfectly from scripted news-reports.

Expected developments — following on from the evolution of AI across a host of regular services and industries — it nonetheless…
